Modern Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement

January 2020

Introduction

G V Harrison Building Contractors Ltd has produced this statement to comply with section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015.  The Act places a duty on businesses to disclose publicly the steps they are taking to prevent modern slavery within their own business and their supply chains.

Our Business

G V Harrison Building Contractors Ltd is a family run business with only three employees.  We occasionally employ sub-contractors as and when required. We do not use any other temporary, seasonal or agency workers.  We are based in Cottenham, Cambridgeshire and our work area extends to most of East Anglia, as well as parts of Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Essex.  We supply and install all VELUX products and within that work carry out related activities such as carpentry, roofing, plastering, electrical work and decorating.

Risk Assessment, Prevention and Mitigation

We regard our position within the construction industry to be low risk in relation to modern slavery.  All our employees and sub-contractors are checked to ensure that they are eligible to work in the UK. They are all paid over the minimum wage, are not subjected to excessive working hours and we are committed to providing safe working conditions.  However, we recognise that we have a responsibility to ensure that our supply chain is equally as conscientious when it comes to modern slavery and that they adhere to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, or for smaller businesses, they at least abide by the principles and policies of the Act.

Going forward

We are committed to ensuring that modern slavery does not exist within our business and we will endeavour to ensure that it does not exist in any of our supply chains.  We will do this by:

  1. Adapting and improving existing policies and procedures as necessary to address modern slavery issues

  2. Make training available to relevant employees in order for them to identify any unlawful or unethical conduct within our business or supply chain

  3. Ensure that any suppliers that we use have a Modern Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking statement or a policy that relates to the principles in the Modern Slavery Act 2015, section 54(1).
